Sport complex and computer courses to be opened in prison in Azerbaijan

A sport complex, room for prayer and computer courses started functioning in prison in Azerbaijan.

The six-and nine-month computer course and English language courses that were opened in the strict regime prison 15 of the Penal Service envisages to attract 20 prisoners in the initial stage.

There are also plans to place information in computers about job vacancies over regions of the General Employment Department of the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection.

A sport complex was also opened in the center, which was supplied with necessary sports equipment for a variety of sports.

Opening mosque and rooms for prayers, organized for prisoners for holding Christianity creates conditions to ensure freedom of conscience and religion of convicted. There are approximately 20 prisoners practicing Christianity in the prison, said Deputy Justice Minister, Head of Penal Service Nazim Alekperov in the opening ceremony on June 11.

He said that there are plans to open similar courses and new sports complexes in other prisons that will help strengthen the social ties of prisoners with society, will create the ground for their social adaptation after imprisonment.

Such courses already exist in the prisons 4, 5, 6 and in other detention institutions. Participating in the opening ceremony, the Vice-President of the National Olympic Committee Chingiz Huseynzade donated sports equipment and literature to the prison.

The event was attended by representatives of the relevant structures, winners of the Olympic Games. The center contains approximately 800 prisoners, including citizens of other states, mainly Iran.

The strict regime prison is envisaged for those convicted more than once.
