The first Republican forum of Azerbaijani women journalists was held in Baku.

Women journalists contributed particularly in formation of Azerbaijani journalism: Azerbaijani member of parliament said.

Journalism is a very difficult profession and women working in this sphere have undertaken a great responsibility, MP Ganira Pashayeva said at the forum on July 15.

More than 3,300 media outlets were registered in Azerbaijan. Currently only 600 of them function. Nearly 400 newspapers and magazines are published and more than 20 television channels function. There are about 50 electronic media outlets, 20 news agencies, and the rest are the Internet resources in Azerbaijan.

Women's main mission is to uphold the justice. I would like to see more women in executive positions, in media and in TV channels, Pashayeva said.

Women journalists have significant role and services in the history of national media, Women Journalist Association of Azerbaijan President Sevil Yusifova said.

Women involved in media show high degree of professionalism, Yusifova said.

Azerbaijan pays particular attention to the development of media and self-regulation of journalism, Azerbaijan Presidential Administration public political department head Vugar Aliyev said at the forum.

The Fund of Governmental Support to Media Development will help to strengthen the media outlets, Aliyev said.

Azerbaijani media develops and women journalists have contributed greatly to it, Press Council Chairman Aflatun Amashov said.

Number of women journalists in the country has almost attained the number of their male counterparts, Amashov added.
