Azerbaijan, Baku, Aug. 26 / Trend , H.Bagirov /

Ex-president of Barmek, Huseyn Arabul, who is on trial in Azerbaijan, has pleaded not guilty to accusations.

Arabul gave testimony at legal hearings in the Azerbaijani Court of Serious Crimes on Aug. 26.

In his testimony, Arabul said that he does not know any of the accused. "They were arrested without any reason and I feel the impact of this action," he added.

According to the accusations, after detention by Georgian border guards Arabul admitted that he had illegally crossed the border and offered them $30,000 for his release.

As a result of an investigation Arabul was arrested on the state border on May. 29.

Arabul said that he felt bad and fainted while he was approaching the border and associated it with the diabetes he suffers. "When I regained consciousness, I realized that I was at the state border. I felt deceived," Arabul added.

Arabul said that he would give a full testimony after the interrogation of all witnesses and promised to bring light on all issues.

Arabul expressed his confidence that he would prove that the accusations of bribery against him were groundless.

"I will explain everything in my testimony. The court has to take measures against the official employees or I will appeal to the European Court," Arabul said.

The hearings continue with testimony from witnesses.

Arabul was accused of Article 318 (attempt to cross state border illegally). In 2007, Arabul was sentenced to five conditional years in prison and a fine of 1,370,000 manat. He cannot leave Azerbaijan until the sentence term has expired.
