EU Foreign Policy Chief Javier Solana said to President Shimon Peres that he received the impression that Syrian leader, Bashar Assad, is interested in renewing negotiations with Israel, Ynet reported.
Peres said to Solana during a meeting in his office that direct negotiations with no preconditions are the only path to renewing talks. Peres said that it must be remembered that Israel is in the Golan Heights because it was attacked and has a right to ensure that it will not be attacked again.
