Azerbaijan mitigates sentence towards individuals accused in mercury trade

Azerbaijan considered appeal of organized group members dealt with mercury trade in Baku.

Baku Court of Appeal announced judgment on the appeal of Hidayat Mamoyev, Imran Pirjanov, Sadiyar Mammadov, Rafig Aliyev, Firdovsi Mammadov, Bilal Abishov, Khanlar Suleymanov and Amiraslan Ibrahimov, who are accused in mercury trade. 

According to the Appeal Court's decision Serious Crimes Court verdict was changed. Ibrahimov, Abishov and F.Mammadov were sentenced to one year imprisonment, and Suleymanov to eight months imprisonment. The rest part of the verdict remained without changes.

Earlier Serious Crimes Court sentenced Hidayat Mamoyev and Imran Pirjanov to four years imprisonment conditionally and they were released at the Court's hall. Sadiyar Mammadov was sentenced to six years imprisonment, Rafig Aliyev, Firdovsi Mammadov, Bilal Abishov, Khanlar Suleymanov, Amiraslan Ibrahimov to two years imprisonment.  

The accused individuals were arrested July 25 2009 by National Security Ministry's employees, when they try to sell about 32 kilograms of toxic chemicals.

The accused are charged with Article 240.3.2 (illegal circulation of strong or poisonous substances with a view of selling in large amount) of the Criminal Code.
