Azerbaijani Education Minister announces number of graduates failed to pass attestation (UPDATE)

About 88,815 (96.54 percent) of 92,002 graduates in Azerbaijan took part in the finals. About 74,832 people passed the exams successfully, Education Minister Misir Mardanov said at a press conference on Tuesday.

"The figures of this year are approximately 10 percent over the previous year. About 23,037 (99.20 percent) of 23,222 graduates took part in examinations conducted in schools and universities. About 21,441 graduates have passed them successfully, " minister said.

Mardanov said that about 8,048 of 8,168 graduates in Ganja, Sumgait and Mingechevir took part in exams. About 7,420 graduates passed them successfully.

About 520 pupils will not take exams on health. About 51 winners of Olympiads will not take exams either. About 300 pupils will not take exams in the area of disaster.

Pupils from Sumgait showed the highest results for the finals (95.48 percent of pupils passed exams successfully). The figure was 92.74 percent in Baku, the minister said.

Mardanov said that due to the fact that general education is compulsory in the country for nine years, pupils who have completed the ninth forms, will be chosen.

Minister noted that some of the innovations are expected to be implemented in the education system in the nearest future, including professional schools.
