Caspian Sea's waters in the Shuvalan district cleansed of black oil, the Azerbaijani Ecology and Natural Resources spokesperson Irada Ibrahimova told Trend.
From Aug.1, black oil stains were observed in the sea water in the Shuvalan district.
"In connection with recent fact, Environmental Protection Division of the Ecology Ministry's Ecological Monitoring Department has established a monitoring group to conduct control in the territory. Initial analysis showed that the cause of the pollution was an oil tanker, which was anchored near the coastal territory," Ibrahimova said.
According to her, if in the first few days of the presence of oil contaminants in the water exceeded the norm in 94 times, then later that figure dropped to 62 and 30 times. "Recent analysis of water showed that the level of oil contaminants in the water is less than the norm," Ibrahimova said.
