The Tehran Military Court dismissed Iranian Deputy Prosecutor, ex-Tehran Prosecutor Saeed Mortazavi today after a series of tragic incidents in the Kahrizak Prison, the rahesabz.net website reported. The court discussed two other judges in connection to the incident. The announcement was made by Amir Javadifar, a lawyer who represented deceased prisoner Saleh Nikbaht.

After their dismissal, the individuals may face lawsuits on behalf of prisoners and their families, Nikbaht said.

According to the lawyer, the court's decision demonstrates that rule of law functions in Iran.

Ali Khamenei issued a decree on the closure of the detention center July 28. Prisoners involved in protests against the presidential election were kept here. Khamenei's decree was issued after mysterious death of Vice-presidential candidate Iran Mohsun Rezai's son Mohsun Ruhulami and others in the same prison.

The Tehran military court No.1 sentenced to death two policemen, who were arrested in connection with the tragic incident in the Kahrizak prison in early July. They were accused of beating prisoners in the Kahrizak prison that caused the death of Amir Javadifar, Mohsun Ruhulami and Muhammad Kamrani. The court passed a verdict on the dismissal of two police officers from the service, payment of fines and compensation to the families of the dead (according to Shariat "payment for blood"), after which they will be executed. The court fined other nine policemen. Based on the verdict, they were dismissed and sentenced to flogging.

The arrested are accused in detention of more prisoners in the facility than it should be, the failure to inform higher authorities about the problems in the isolation and the default instructions for maintenance and protection of prisoners, on the application of physical violence and torture against the arrested and negligence shown during the control of the facility.
