All children must where a school uniform, Azerbaijani Education Minister Misir Mardanov said while commenting on the wearing of headscarves by some school girls in educational institutions.
"Our decision on this question is categorical," he said. "There is a school uniform and children should come to school in this form."
According to Mardanov, pupils who do not follow these rules will not be permitted to attend their classes.
Azerbaijan began its transition to a unified school uniform system for students in 1st-4th class on Sept. 15. For boys enrolled in primary school, the school uniform is a blue jacket and trousers, a waistcoat of the same color, and a white shirt. For girls, the school uniform is white tights, a black-and-white-checkered skirt, a blue jacket, a dark-red vest and a white shirt.
