Azerbaijan will carry out research to study suicides, Azerbaijani Chief Psychiatrist and Medical University's Psychiatry Department Chief Geray Geraybeyli told Trend.
He said the results will be released following the research.
The research will study the suicides of healthy and mentally ill individuals. The studies will also study suicide epidemiology in Baku.
Geraybeyli expressed regret over the fact that Azerbaijan has not conducted epidemiological studies. According to him, this is the first such study in Baku.
"It is impossible to keep accurate statistics of suicide. Not every suicide is recorded. Sometimes families and relatives hide these things and sometimes suicide attempts do not lead to fatalities. If we're talking about doing real statistics, one must take into account these factors, " Geraybeyli said.
He added that society was told that individuals who commit suicide are mentally ill one during the Soviet era. However, an individual approach is required in this matter, Geraybeyli said.
