Fixed-route taxi drivers are holding a protest on Rose Square in Tbilisi.

A few hundred people are gathered on the square. They demand the cancellation of a tender announced by the Tbilisi Mayor's Office in accordance with which the whole fixed-route taxi business passed into the hands of a monopolist - Sharangia, who is considered President Mikheil Saakashvili's and Tbilisi Mayor Gigi Ugulava's friend.

According to one of the leaders of the Conservative Party, Lasha Chkhartishvili, after six months, most people working today fixed-route taxi drivers will be unemployed, because they are prohibited to work in their own cars.

"Taxi drivers and their family members - about a few thousand people - probably will not work because the company that won the tender will substitute them with their own staff," he said.
