Stable seismological situation is recorded in Azerbaijan, director of the National Seismological Service Center Gurban Etirmishli told Trend.

"At present, quakes at the level of seismic background are recorded in the country, which can be considered typical for Azerbaijan," said Etirmishli.

He said registered since the beginning of the year, the quakes in Azerbaijan are not felt, are not destructive, which confirms that the seismic situation is at the background level.

The strongest earthquake observed in recent years in Azerbaijan occurred Nov. 25, 2000 in the south of Absheron Peninsula. Intensity of the earthquake reached six or seven points.

After the devastating earthquake in Japan, some experts have made predictions about strong earthquake expect in Azerbaijan.
