The IAEA representatives will arrive in Azerbaijan in July, the director of the Institute of Radiation Problems under the Azerbaijani National Academy of Sciences Adil Garibov said.
He said that the purpose of the visit is to familiarize with the construction operations of the gamma complexes for sterilization, conducted by IAEA together with the academy. During the visit, the IAEA representatives will get acquainted with the site, where the construction will be conducted.
"The work related to the construction of the complex is conducted normally," he said. "Baku has already allocated the site for this. The operations are underway within the investment program now. The plot is fenced. The communication is laid. I think that by the end of the year we will complete developing of the project to build an office building. Next year we will begin constructing an office building."
The result of the tender on procurement of equipment is connected with the construction of the sterilizing unit. It will be disclosed in the first half of June, Garibov said.
He stressed that he will attend an international conference on research reactor safety in Russia, Dmitrovgrad on May 27 and a conference on waste management on the sites producing uranium in Kyrgyzstan on June 10-14.
