Eldar and Nigar's victory at the Eurovision Song Contest 2011 is a great achievement and a grand event in terms of the fact that Azerbaijan made itself known in the world, Azerbaijani Parliamentary Culture Committee Chairman Nizami Jafarov told Trend on Sunday.

"It is important that our victory has a gradual and dynamic character. Although we take part at this contest fairly recently, every time the Azerbaijani singers differed with their performance," Jafarov said.

Azerbaijani duo Eldar Gasimov and Nigar Jamal (Ell / Nikki) with their pop-ballad "Running Scared" won the Eurovision Song Contest 2011. Azerbaijan received the highest score - 12 points from Russia, Turkey and Malta. Azerbaijan took 10 points from Ukraine, Greece, Croatia, San Marino, Romania and Moldova. The duo received 8 points from Austria, Cyprus, Iceland, Poland, Georgia, Albania, Portugal, Lithuania, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Estonia.

Jafarov stressed that the Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and First Lady, Heydar Aliyev Foundation President Mehriban Aliyeva have a special role in this victory.

"Much depends on the organization of work. There will always be victories where there is the will of the head of state," he said.

Jafarov believes that the Azerbaijani culture's global integration is consecutively underway - Azerbaijani culture makes itself known in the world and the country has success in all spheres of culture. "It is no coincidence that Baku is a venue for intercultural dialogue".
Jafarov stressed that Azerbaijan has the experience and success in organizing large-scale cultural events and expressed confidence that the Eurovision Song Contest 2012 will be held at a high level in Azerbaijan.

He also expressed his confidence that Azerbaijan's gradual achievements in the field of culture, science and economy will be continued in the military and political sphere.
