Azerbaijani Press Council has sent an appeal to the Interior Ministry regarding the fact that unknown persons made physical pressure on a journalist from the United States Amanda Erickson and human rights activist from Britain Silyi Davis on 15 June in Baku, the Press Council said on Friday.

Azerbaijani Press Council has sent an appeal to the Interior Ministry regarding the fact that unknown persons made physical pressure on a journalist from the United States Amanda Erickson and human rights activist from Britain Silyi Davis on 15 June in Baku, the Press Council said on Friday.

Activities of Erickson and Davis in the country were collaboration with local NGOs and trainings for journalists and civil society, the apeal says. Erickson is also working with the influential American newspaper "New York Times" and "Washington Post".

"The Press Council condemns the pressure against them, and regards it as a provocation designed to create a negative opinion about our country," the statement says.

The appeal also states the importance of quickly identifying the perpetrators and bring them to justice in accordance with the law.
