An Azerbaijani rower has left last year's world championships behind and reached the semifinals, the Azerbaijani National Rowing Federation told Trend.

An Azerbaijani rower has left last year's world championships behind and reached the semifinals, the Azerbaijani National Rowing Federation told Trend.

The world rowing championships was held in the capital of Holland Amsterdam. The sportsmen of the Azerbaijani national team successfully participated in the first round.

Azerbaijani representatives Iskra Angelova participated in a single boat (BW1X) and a silver medalist of the last year's world championship tournament Alexander Alexandrov in a single boat (BM1X) completed the qualifying round, by ranking first.

Kamal Mammadov ranked second in a single boat (BLM1X), Alexander Glotov - Fuad Mirzoyev ranked third in a double boat (BM2-).

Angelova left sportswomen from Lithuania, Ukraine, Ireland, Holland and Denmark behind in the qualifying round.

Alexandrov's rivals were rowers from Hungary, Israel and Sweden.
