French experts will train mine rescuers for th emountainous Svaneti region.

It has been provided for in an agreement formalized between the Georgian National Tourism Agency and the French NGO Civil Defense Without Borders.

The organization will provide the Georgian side with the expert service to establish the Civil Defence Service in Svaneti on the basis of this document.


The project will be completed in late 2011. The trained specialists, if necessary, will carry out rescue operations in other regions of the country.

Georgian Economy Minister Vera Kobalia told media after signing the agreement that a modern point of rescuers will be created in Svaneti with the assistance of French rescuers.

"Svaneti becomes more attractive for tourists," she said. "We must have all the necessary security system. The rescuers are an important component to ensure the safety of tourists."
