Turkmenistan, Ashgabat, July 30 / Trend H.Hasanov /
One of the key areas of the UN-Turkmenistan cooperation is the ecology sphere, the Turkmen government's press service reported today.
The latest governmental meeting underscored that "Turkmenistan proposes to turn Ashgabat into the inter-regional center to deal with the issues related to climate change, as well as to organize the Caspian Environment Forum under the UN auspices ".
"The UN regards our country as an important and responsible partner in solving urgent problems of the environmental protection," the report reads.
Ashgabat now works to develop the country's priority positions at the 66th session of the UN General Assembly.
"The matter is Turkmenistan's new proposals to continue to build a constructive dialogue on key areas such as politics, economy, energy, ecology and environmental protection, as well as cultural and humanitarian areas."
The report emphasized that all these initiatives are aimed at ensuring global peace and security, strengthening the fruitful partnership that meets the common interests and creating favorable conditions for sustainable development in the region and throughout the world.
Ashgabat hosted an international conference on "Environmental aspects of Trans-Caspian pipeline construction" in late February
Observers believe Turkmenistan, as one of the key players on the energy market in the Caspian region and Central Asia, prepares the ground for a project to build a gas pipeline under the Caspian Sea, in which Azerbaijan is also involved.
The Trans-Caspian Pipeline Infrastructure will make it possible to connect the Caspian resources to the transnational project Nabucco for a long term. This pipeline project will deliver gas to the European Union countries.
