The Heydar Aliyev Foundation has presented a 'Mini-information lab' to the Blind People Society, the Foundation said today.

The 'mini-information lab' includes a special computer desk, a computer typesetting and a software system that allows the visually impaired to send and receive different information.

One can use textbooks with the help of the audio package Jawes For Windows, a Pearl camera scanner, devices for reading audio books, a large device allowing to fix sheets designed for writing the Braille alphabet (special font for the visually impaired and blind), and be able to read different information by using the audio programme.

Several years ago, the Heydar Aliyev Foundation initiated delivering modern technologies for the visually impaired to Azerbaijan. The Foundation and UNDP signed an agreement on cooperation in 2005 to ensure the use of ICT by blind people or those with poor eyesight. The project aims to integrate the visually impaired into society and to expand opportunities to acquire knowledge and information by means of information and communication.

According to the Heydar Aliyev Foundation's initiative, a publishing house has been established at a special boarding school for blind children. The textbooks and manuals are being printed there using the Braille alphabet.
