In late September, UEFA is expected to issue a decision regarding the joint application of Azerbaijan and Georgia to hold Euro 2020 in these countries, the secretary general of the Association of Football Federations of Azerbaijan (AFFA), Elkhan Mammadov, told Trend on Thursday.

"At the last meeting, UEFA President Michel Platini proposed an unusual idea of holding Euro 2020 in various European cities. This issue has not been resolved, although several countries have supported this idea. In late September, UEFA will decide whether Euro 2020 is to be held in the form proposed by Platini, or traditionally, in one or two countries," Mammadov said. He noted that the Platini idea is also appropriate.

"We believe this is a positive fact. In 2020 the sixtieth anniversary of the European Championships is marked and holding it in different cities of the continent would be a perfect holiday," Mammadov said.

He said today Azerbaijan's efforts are directed towards hosting the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup. However after its completion, Azerbaijan will start preparing to host the Youth U17 European Championship. The documents in this regard have been sent to UEFA, Mammadov said.
