Baku to host UNESCO session

The seventh session of the UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage is being held in Paris, the Azerbaijani Ministry of Culture and Tourism told Trend on Friday.

The seventh session of the UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage is being held in Paris, the Azerbaijani Ministry of Culture and Tourism told Trend on Friday.

According to the tradition, a country that will host the next session of the Committee is declared and chairman of the session is appointed at the end of the session. As a result of discussions, a decision was made to hold the eighth session of the Committee, as well as the tenth anniversary of the Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage in Baku on December 2-8, 2013.

Thus, the eighth session of the Committee will be chaired by the Azerbaijani Ministry of Culture and Tourism. China, Greece, Burkina Faso, Brazil and Egypt were elected as Vice-Chairmen of the Committee.

Head of the Azerbaijani delegation, Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism Sevda Mammadaliyeva spoke on behalf of Azerbaijan and thanked for supporting the country's candidacy.

Afterwards, a film about Azerbaijan was demonstrated.

The Azerbaijani art of tar performing was included in the Representative List of the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
