Azerbaijan, Baku, Dec. 21 / Trend T. Jafarov /
Visas will be cancelled for foreign pilgrims arriving by plane in several cities, including Mashad, Qum and Shiraz to promote religious tourism in Iran, Iran's presidential adviser and chairman of the Islamic Culture and Relations Mohammad Bagher Hurramshad told Trend today.
He said that at present, the visa status for pilgrims visiting Qum and Mashhad has been cancelled and preparatory work in connection with the city of Shiraz is underway.
"The infrastructure has been modernised for many years in these cities," he said. "Restoration work was conducted and airports, hotels and inns were built. There are suitable conditions to receive pilgrims from around the world."
The event was held with the participation of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in Mashhad last week. The city was declared as being an international focus of pilgrimage.
