The extensive work conducted under leadership of Azerbaijani President in recent years and significant success achieved which ensured rapid progress and sustainable development covering all aspects of social and economic life of the country, created a solid foundation for future success, Azerbaijani Transport Minister Ziya Mammadov said speaking at the first meeting of the Organising Committee of the first European Games chaired by President Ilham Aliyev on Saturday.
Holding the first European Games in Azerbaijan undoubtedly places responsibility on each of us, he said.
"Implementation of these games at a high level requires large scale organisation," Mammadov said.
He said the Transport Ministry is currently discussing specific proposals and a plan of complex measures is being developed.
"According to preliminary information, Heydar Aliyev International Airport, Baku railway station and the road transport structure are intended to be the main hubs at this event which will be attended by 49 countries. It is planned that the arrival and departure of the majority of guests will be carried out at Heydar Aliyev International Airport, "he said.
"Official delegations are of particular importance in the provision of transportation services. They have to be provided with separate vehicles. Transportation of delegation members, athletes and their escorts, as well as tourists to Olympic stadiums and other facilities for holding sports competitions, from Olympic villages will be carried out during the games. The information will be specified in the preparation period and a more complete organisation of these services will be provided, "Mammadov said.
He said a plan of measures for 2013-2014 is currently being developed for the organisation of transport services and elimination of transport problems in Baku which will be submitted to the Organising Committee by late February.
Mammadov said the plan of measures consists of three main parts including vehicles, buses, cars, taxi cabs, metro carriages and their technical condition and provision, modernisation of the transport fleet for complete provision of transportation services and its infrastructure and managing and organisation of vehicles.
