Turkish Airlines (Türk Hava Yolları) will be put up for partial privatisation, Sabah newspaper said today.

Around 49.12 per cent state in the airline's stake will be put up for privatisation.

An international consultant is planned to be involved for the successful completion of this process. The launch date has not specified.

There is an active process of state-owned companies being privatised in Turkey. Turkish telecommunication company Türk Telekom, Halk Bankası bank and other state institutions were privatised earlier.

Turkish Airlines was established on May 20, 1933 as the State Aviation Administration. It makes regular flights to 123 international and 32 domestic airports in Europe, Asia, Africa and the USA.The airline employs around 12,000.

The airline has become a member of the Star Alliance since April 1, 2008. Anadolujet, SunExpress and B & H Airlines are the airline's subsidiaries.

The Turkish Airlines fleet mainly consists of the Boeing 777-300ER and Airbus A319-100 aircraft.
