By Rufiz Hafizoglu - Trend:

The sale of devices for blocking seat belt reminders has been banned in Turkey, Turkish TV channel Haber 7 reported on Nov. 30.

This decision was taken to prevent fatal consequences of traffic accidents, according to the TV channel.

A penalty of 180 Turkish liras (approx. $89) will be imposed for sale of such devices.

Turkish drivers use these devices to turn off the seat belt reminder, which leads to serious consequences in accidents, according to the report.

Recently, Turkey toughened penalties for violation of traffic rules. Thus, the fine for exceeding the set speed limit was increased to 700 liras (approx. $346).

The official exchange rate on Nov. 30 is 2.0174 TRY/USD.
