The Council of Europe can adopt the convention on prevention of manipulations in sports, especially contractual results of races, Deputy of Milli Majlis Rauf Aliyev told Trend on Feb. 3.

Manipulation in sports has become a serious problem worrying The International Olympic Committee, FIFA and other international structures.

According to the deputy, the Council of Europe has begun to implement a set of measures for solving this problem. A working group has been created for preparation of the project of the Council of Europe`s convention to fight against manipulations in sports, in particular, contractual results and EPAS.

The first meeting of the working group was conducted in 2012, and the preparation of the convention's project started.

At the sixth meeting of the Working Group, held in Strasbourg on January 20-21, the last option was agreed upon and submitted to the Board for discussion and conclusion.

The Board meeting of EPAS was conducted on January 23, 2014, which was attended by representatives of the countries of Europe and of other continents, which are members of EPAS. After the adoption of the resolution and decision, the final decision was sent to the relevant bodies of the Council of Europe to examine" - said Aliyev.

According to his words, this convention is expected to be signed at the13th conference of Ministers of sports of the Council of Europe's member states, which will be conducted in September 2014 in Switzerland.

Aliyev, Head of International Relations Department of the Ministry of Youth and Sport of Azerbaijan Ilham Madatov and advisor of the Department Nermin Mamedova participated at the sixth meeting of the Board Committee on Sports Development of the Council of Europe.
