Baku, Azerbaijan, Nov. 26

Trend:

An armed incident occurred Nov. 26 in the suburbs of Baku.

Reports indicate that a shootout took place in the Nardaran Township, some 25 km north of Baku, between the head of radical religious group Tale Baghirov, his people and the police.

The Sabunchu District Police Office told Trend that there are killed and wounded. Reportedly, four people have been killed.

Head Physician of the Baku City Third Hospital Fikrat Zeynalov told Trend that three more people injured in the incident were admitted to the hospital. Their health condition is satisfactory.

Meanwhile, the press service of the Prosecutor General's Office told Trend that an investigation was launched into the incident together with the Interior Ministry.

In early November this year, members of a radical group, operating under the guise of religion, held a rally in the Bakikhanov settlement of Sabunchu District of Baku.

The members of the radical group, protesting against detention of the deputy chairman of the so-called Muslim Unity Movement, Elchin Gasimov, gathered in front of the Sabunchu District Police Office in Bakikhanov.

Several individuals, demanding to release Gasimov, were detained by the police and later released.
