Baku, Azerbaijan, May 24
Armenian team will participate in the 42nd World Chess Olympiad, to be held Sept. 1-14 in Baku, Azerbaijan, the President of the World Chess Federation (FIDE) Kirsan Ilyumzhinov said May 24.
He said this issue was discussed during his recent visit to Yerevan, Armenia.
"During my visit, I met with the President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan, who is also the president of the Chess Federation of Armenia, as well as with Levon Aronian [Armenian chess grandmaster] and invited them to take part in the World Chess Olympiad," said Ilyumzhinov. "Currently, no refusal has been received from Armenia, and that means Armenian chess players will take part in the World Chess Olympiad in Baku."
