Baku Higher Oil School (BHOS) has hosted a commemorative ceremony dedicated to the Day of the Genocide of Azerbaijanis – March 31.
The event, attended by employees and students of the university, began with a moment of silence in memory of our compatriots who gave their lives for the liberation of our lands and the sovereignty of our country.
Speaking at the ceremony, Rector of Baku Higher Oil School Elmar Gasimov informed the gathering about the acts of genocide committed against the Azerbaijani people, noting that based on the Decree of the national leader Heydar Aliyev dated March 26, 1998, March 31 is marked as the Day of the Genocide of Azerbaijanis.
“In 1918, the Baku Soviet and Armenian Dashnak armed groups committed a massacre of Azerbaijanis in Baku, as well as in Shamakhi, Guba, Khachmaz and other regions, killing thousands of people. These events are the bloody pages of our history. These days, inscribed in the bloody memory of our history, when thousands of Azerbaijanis became victims of genocide, should never be forgotten. In order not to repeat the tragedies that have befallen our people and to draw a lesson from history, our youth and students must deeply study our history. Future generations should also know that today Azerbaijan has a strong army and government that have won a historic victory under the leadership of Supreme Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev.”
The commemorative ceremony concluded with showing a video on “March 31 – the Day of the Genocide of Azerbaijanis.”
