BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 25. A specific law on the status of refugees from Western Azerbaijan should be adopted, Chairman of the Western Azerbaijan Community, deputy of the Milli Majlis (Parliament) Aziz Alekberli said, Trend reports.
He made the remark during a speech at a public hearing in the Milli Majlis on the topic "Return to West Azerbaijan: Legal aspects".
He noted that there is a law of the Republic of Azerbaijan "On the status of refugees and internally displaced persons".
"This law was signed by the great leader Heydar Aliyev on May 21, 1999. Today, the concept of an internally displaced person is already history. For this reason, as well as from the point of view of adapting to the concept of returning to West Azerbaijan, I believe that this law needs to be reviewed. A specific law on the status of refugees from Western Azerbaijan should be adopted," he said.
