ZANGILAN, Azerbaijan, May 30. UNDP assists in building Azerbaijan's capacity in the field of demining, Assistant Administrator and Director of the Regional Bureau for Europe and the CIS Ivana Živković told reporters on the sidelines of the 3rd International Conference On Mine Action titled "Mitigating environmental impact of landmines: resource mobilization for safe and green future" in Zangilan, Azerbaijan, Trend reports.

"UNDP has a longstanding commitment to mine action and extensive experience worldwide. Now, in collaboration with the Azerbaijani Mine Action Agency, with whom we've partnered for over two decades, we're delighted to continue this cooperation. Together, we aim to build capacity and establish a Center of Excellence, offering educational and practical services not only to Azerbaijani deminers but to countries across the region," she remarked.

The assistant administrator highlighted Azerbaijan's utilization of cutting-edge demining methods and advanced technologies, including artificial intelligence and drone imagery.

Živković emphasized that she sees the primary challenge as mobilizing resources.

"We're hopeful for the support of the international community to secure additional funding, allowing us to extend coverage to more areas," she concluded.

The 3rd International Conference on Mine Action began its work in Zangilan, jointly organized by the Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

The conference is attracting significant international attention, with over 300 delegates from 75 countries participating.
