BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 23. The International Chess Federation's General Assembly held its last meeting on the last day of the 45th World Chess Olympiad in Budapest, the capital of Hungary, Trend reports.
According to information, during the meeting, the Azerbaijan Chess Federation (ACF) proposed to create a special structure to strengthen cooperation and ties of Turkic-speaking countries in the field of chess.
Addressing the meeting, ACF Secretary General Ilaha Gadimova emphasized the importance of creating a joint association of Turkic-speaking countries and informed about the main goals of the future structure. The proposal put to vote at the FIDE General Assembly was adopted unanimously. Thus the Chess Association of Turkic-speaking countries was established. The first members of the association became Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Türkiye, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan and Kyrgyzstan.
At the end of the meeting, FIDE President Arkady Dvorkovich met with the heads of chess federations of the member states of the Chess Association of Turkic-speaking Countries. The charter of the association will be approved shortly. The leadership of the structure will be elected for two years and will be on a rotational basis. The main goal is to expand ties between the Turkic-speaking countries in the field of chess and the regular realization of joint projects.
