BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 26. The Ecology Institute of the National Aerospace Agency under Azerbaijan's Ministry of Defense Industry is researching environmental problems in territories liberated from occupation, director of the Institute Bahram Aliyev told Trend.
He noted that maps were drawn up based on data received from satellites.
“The analysis of the maps shows that in 1989 the area of vegetation cover on the territory of Fuzuli district was 12,454 hectares, and by 2021 this figure has decreased to 8,644 hectares. That is, 3,800 hectares of vegetation were lost during the occupation period.
A similar situation was encountered during the assessment of vegetation cover on the territory of Aghdam district.
Thus, on the territory of Aghdam district in 1989, the area of vegetation cover on the territory of 115,000 hectares decreased to 12,110 hectares by 2021,” he added.
