BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 11. The COP29 Green Zone, organized by the COP29 Presidency and featuring community engagement, green transition, technological solutions, and global collaboration, opened its doors on the first day of the international climate conference, marking the launch of a series of events to be held throughout the conference. The opening day programme included an event hosted by the COP29 Azerbaijan Operating Company focusing on climate action and carbon neutrality, Trend reports.
The event, titled “Towards Net-Zero Carbon Emissions: COP29 Partnerships for a Sustainable Future”, brought together stakeholders to discuss COP29’s climate action initiatives. A panel discussion featuring Ayan Najaf, Coordination Board Member and Spokesperson for the COP29 Azerbaijan Operating Company; Marina Olshanskaya, COP29’s Sustainability Advisor and Senior Climate Сhange and Green Finance Expert; Sabit Zeyniyev, Deputy Chairman of Executive Board of “Tamiz Shahar” JSC; Rustam Gasimov, a seasoned Managing Director with a proven track record in the electrical and electronic manufacturing industry; and Dave Rosen, New Zealand-based philanthropist and carbon markets expert, addressed key topics such as waste management, renewable energy solutions, clean technologies, and GHG emission reduction.
Attendees learned about collaborative efforts in developing and implementing sustainability initiatives and discussed how to support COP29’s positioning as a sustainable event benchmark, efficiently utilizing greener and more sustainable resources.
Throughout the first opening day, various companies held discussions and seminars covering topics such as biodiversity conservation, innovations in renewable energy, intergenerational cooperation in the pursuit of climate justice and sustainability, the crucial role of higher education in addressing climate change, and various other pertinent issues. It was accompanied by performances and interactive sessions organized in the dynamic “Extreme Hangout” area, as well as by the overall activities in the Green Zone’s pavilion areas.
In the upcoming days of COP29, a range of events in diverse formats are scheduled. Until November 22, a series of panel discussions will be held in collaboration with COP29’s official partners on various topics. These sessions will feature prominent experts and distinguished figures in the fields of climate action and sustainability.
The COP29 Green Zone serves as a meeting place for a broad range of stakeholders, including government and private sector representatives, media, scientists, experts, local communities, civil society organizations, and official Blue Zone delegates, all engaged in climate issues.
