BAKU, Azerbaijan, December 18. Holding COP29 in Azerbaijan positively challenged medicine and the healthcare system, the country's Deputy Minister of Health Nadir Zeynalov said during the II panel session titled "New Opportunities in Healthcare" as part of the "Healthcare Management Summit 2024" today, Trend reports.
He believes that the healthcare system needs to keep its footprint light on the environment, roll with the punches of ecological challenges like climate change, and be as tough as nails when facing these hurdles. All of this adds up to what the modern world demands from healthcare systems.
He mentioned that 2024 was a real mixed bag of events in Azerbaijan.
"The most significant and greatest of these was the COP29 event, which served as a benchmark for our nation in the most favorable way. It served as an evaluation for medicine and the healthcare system.
We are all gratified that both our nation and the healthcare system successfully endured this challenge. The outcomes of the COP29 Conference and its organization were of exceptional quality.
This event is also a platform for healthcare managers to come together and share their ideas. Just as various medical professionals gather at conferences and events to exchange knowledge and skills, this platform is designed to bring together healthcare managers.
I'm confident that the leaders and managers of public and private healthcare institutions gathered here will share their problems and activities, discuss various issues, and take advantage of the sessions presented here," he added.
To note, COP29 was notable for establishing a new core finance objective of $300 billion, which triples the prior $100 billion aim, the complete operationalization of the Loss and Damage Fund, and the finalization of discussions for high-integrity carbon markets under Article 6.
The creation of the Loss and Damage Fund was sanctioned at COP27 in Egypt. The fund seeks to offer financial support to nations most susceptible to the effects of climate change. At COP28 in the United Arab Emirates, a resolution was reached to initiate the Fund's operations.
