ANTI-CORRUPTION LEGAL ADVOCACY CENTER OPENED IN AZERBAIJAN

The first Anti-Corruption Legal Advocacy Center (ALAC) will open in Azerbaijan on Wednesday 2005, Trend reports. The Center targets to provide the citizens with the means to become actively involved in the fight against corruption in Azerbaijan.

The ALAC staff and volunteers will operate a toll-free hotline which will take calls from citizens, from all round the country regarding the allegations of corruption and will assist the callers on how to use official compliant mechanism.

In addition the ALAC stuff will maintain the statistics and use the information gained to provide ministers with concrete suggestions on ways to improve processes and address corruption. The ALAC has a full-time-tuff attorney, who can assist callers and walk-in clients with legal questions regarding corruption.

The Centre was established by the United States Agency for International Development through its implementing partner the American Bar Association and Central European and Eurasian Law Initiative in partnership with Transparency Azerbaijan.
