CHINGIZ GANIZADE: THERE IS SERIOUS PROGRESS IN CONDITIONS OF HOLDING INMATES IN GOBUSTAN CLOSED PRISON

В"There is a serious progress in the conditions, under which the inmates sentenced for the life imprisonment are held in the Gobustan closed jail”, chairman of the Committee on democracy and human rights, head of the group, that carried out monitoring in the jail last week, Chingiz Ganizade told Trend.

The results, obtained during the monitoring will be put for discussion at the meeting of the Working group on political prisoners issues, to be scheduled for early August.

В"In the cells, where the jailed are held, the heating system has been installed anew, and fully completed. Along with this, a new drinking water line has been laid to the prison, ventilation shaft have been installed in the cells, as well as special small windows on the doors for letting the fresh air in. I think it is a very big and positive progress”, Ganizade noted.

The key issue, which troubles the confined people, the replacement of the life sentence for 15 years of imprisonment, will be put on the joint discussion of the Working group with the officials of Azerbaijan during the forthcoming meeting. The number of inmates condemned for the life imprisonment is over 100 people in the Gobustan closed prison.
