AZERI CHESS-PLAYER RANKS 2 AT CHESS FESTIVAL IN TURKEY

Vugar Gashimov, the Azerbaijani grand master, ranked 2 at the chess festival in Istanbul.

Gashimov won Bolgarian Evgeniy Janev at the final 9th round and scored 7.5 points, Trend reports. 7 more participants of the competitions finished with the same index, but the best play was demonstrated by Russian Alexandr Karpachev. Gashimov, played in a draw with the future winner, was awarded with a silver medal. 8 chess-players with the same points divided the prize money gaining $2,300.

Meanwhile, Ayaz Mammadov, the Azeri player, won at the competition among the youth under 16.
