HUMAN RIGHTS ACTIVISTS MET WITH OSCE ACTING CHAIRMAN DMITRI RUPEL

Leaders of human rights non-government (NGO) organizations Saida Hodjamanli, Eldar Zeynalov, Novella Djafarogli, Leyla Yunus, Avez Hasanov met on 5 September with the OSCE acting chairman Dmitri Rupel to be on a visit in Baku, the human rights activist Novella Djafarogli told Trend.

During the meeting Dmitri Rupel was given detailed information on the pre-election situation in Azerbaijan. В"We voiced mainly our concern over the pre-election political arrest of the “Yeni Musavat Party” activist Pirali Orudjov and the chairman of the “Yenu Fikir” Youth Organization Ruslan Bashirli, on-going вЂ�black PR’ campaigning at the TV channels, operating in Azerbaijan, against the opposition”, Djafarogli said.

The issues concerning certain bans in regard to NGOs, funded from abroad by 30 %, in the Election Code, proposals related to the elections lists, formation of election committees at the parity basis were touched upon at the meeting. В"We reported, once these issues find their decision, one may hope on holding fair and free elections”, the human rights defender said.
