РђZERBAIJANI DELEGATION FAMILIARISED OMBUDSMAN WITH PROBLEMS OF COMPATRIOTS LIVING IN GEORGIA

(Prime-News) The situation of the Azerbaijani population in Georgia was discussed at the meeting of the people’s defender Sozar Hubari with members of the being in Georgia Azerbaijani delegation headed by the chairman of the State Committee on the compatriots residing abroad Nazim Ibragimov.

On 26-27 September the delegation met with the Azerbaijani residents of various provinces and got familiar with their life conditions.

At the meeting with the ombudsman the issues of allotting additional lands to the Azerbaijanis and transfer them to their private ownership, of further education of graduates of the Azerbaijani schools, of simplification of the border control procedure while crossing the Georgian вЂ"Azerbaijani border, of water and energy supply of the Azerbaijani villages of the Kvemo Kartli region were raised.

According to Sozar Hubari, the people’s defender’s office keeps constantly in the focus of its attention the problems of the Azerbaijani population. As for the land allotment, it is due to corruption of the former Georgian authorities and they are not related to the ethnic issues.

Hubari voiced hope, at the results of the reforms in the educational system the problems of the Azerbaijanis, as well as representatives of other ethnic groups living in g Georgia will be resolved.

Earlier Nazim Ibragimov held meetings with the Georgian Interior Minster Vano Merabishvili, the Minister of Education and Science Alexander Lomaya, the Premier -Minister Zurab Nogaideli, the Parliament chairwoman Nino Burdjanadze.
