UN carries out bird flu' prevention work in Azerbaijan.

Head of the Azerbaijani office of the World Health Organization (WHO), Pavel Urso, announced the necessity to conduct a number of measures to tackle the bird flu in Azerbaijan, UNICEF told Trend.

Urso has also noted that population in the districts where the bird flu was detected are to follow preventive measures such as avoiding the contact with the dead and shot birds, using bird meat and eggs for food only after cooking, people infected by the ordinary flu should avoid contacts with the birds.

WHO representative stated, that epidemiological studies and clinical management are conducted in the places where H5N1 has been identified.

in Azerbaijan, Hannah Singer stated, that in order to tackle the bird flu successfully its primal sources have to be identified. We need active support from society, she said.

Informational materials were prepared by UNICEF together with the Ministries of Healthcare, Education and Agriculture to be spread through NGOs.

According to the latest statement of the WHO, there are 7 cases of bird flu infection in Azerbaijan, 5 of the infected people have died.
