UNICEF to hold workshop on iodine deficiency disorders

UNICEF will organize a one day workshop for media professionals on iodine deficiency disorders (IDD) and Universal Salt Iodization in Baku, Baku office of the organization told Trend.

The seminar will take place on June 6 2006 at the Park Inn Hotel with the participation of the Resident Representative of UNICEF Azerbaijan, Hanaa Singer, the head of the Free Consumers Union, Eyyub Huseynov, Deputy Health Minister, Sanan Karimov, the chairman of the permanent parliamentary commission on social economy, Hadi Rajabli.

Azerbaijan has been making significant progress towards elimination of IDD. However, despite such major achievements as adoption of the national law on Universal Salt Iodization in 2003, considerable challenges on ending iodine deficiency remain, a source at the organization said.

The workshop targets to introduce issue to the journalists, provide necessary contact and resource information and responsible coverage in the issue.
