Large-scale media project launched in Kvemo Kartli area

Large-scale media project started in Kvemo Kartli, enclave of Georgian Azerbaijanis. Officials of Tbilisi office of Internews Fund told Trends special correspondent that the project, launched at the initiative of NGO Agency of civil development with support of donors and partners, is directed to progress local media.

Within the project, two newspapers in Azeri and Georgian will be issued, new information agency and resource-center for regional journalists established and radio station opened. The new newspaper will be similar to Informator issued in Rustavi and Gardabani.

Consultation assistance in newspaper creation is provided by Institute for War and Peace Revelation (IWPR). Radio station will get opened in Marneuli. Its future employees are pursuing trainings and it is equipped and provided with necessary appliances.

Information, analytical and entertainment programs will be broadcasted in Russia, Georgian and Azeri. Р'Р'РЎ will provide consultation support. The radio station will supposedly start broadcasting in September 2006.

Media resource center in Kvemo Kartli will be founded at financial support of CRS of the US. It is purposed for technical and information support to local media. The center will be equipped with computers, Internet and special library to host workshops and meetings.
