The draft agreement concerning the condition with the Transboundary waters, their usage, and protection to be considered during the next meeting of the Azerbaijani-Geoorgian Intergovernmental Commission in Batumi on August 16-17, the Deputy Minister of Environment Protection and Nature Resources of Georgia Zaala Lomtadze told Trend.

As it is known transboundary waters of the Kura and Araz enter Azerbaijan after they were polluted on the territories of the neighbouring countries of the South Caucasus. Experts working on this draft agreement in the ecological sphere try to create frames for cooperation, i. E. There will not be working out in detail, told the Deputy Minister. This is the setting up of regular meetings, the building of any permanent contact groups, expert groups which would work out proposals for the mutual adoption of our countries. For example, how we should communicate on the monitoring, how many times we and how much changes should be carried out on spots. Such general and mutual monitorings are necessary to determine how much pollution crosses the border, told Z. Lomtadze.

According to Z. Lomtadz, the data available now is not adequate. Everybody by intuition realizes that there are pollutions, but we have not had yet the exact measuring each party would have on its desk The joint working out of such agreements, however, will be continued till the end of this year, summarized the Deputy Minister.

According to local specialists on water resources on the area of the Kura bordering with Georgia in the Village of Shikhli-2, the systematic exceeding of MPC (maximum permissible concentration) of injurous additives in the water has been registered: phenol 8-12 times as much, matalls 8-14 times as much, sulphate -2 times as much, oil products 2-3 times as much.
