1st Forum of Azerbaijani Youths of Scandinavia and Baltic to Take Place in November

The 1st Forum of the Azerbaijani Youths of Scandinavia and the Baltic will take place at the beginning of November in Riga, the Latvian newspaper Telegraph writes quoting the Chairman of the Youth Center of Latvian Azerbaijanis, Amil Salimov, Trend reports.

According to him, Riga was selected to hold the 1st Forum of the Azerbaijani Youths. Delegations from Scandinavia and the Baltic will meet in Riga for two days. It is planned that the Forum will focus not only on the exchange of expressions and experiences, but also on the establishment of business contacts with the prospect of opening international businesses.

According to the newspaper, the young generation of Latvian Azerbaijanis is the children born here. They have already Europeanized, but their parents personally help them retain their native language through the assistance of the Azeri Society where a Sunday school has been functioning for a long time. Now Azerbaijani youths have strengthened their feelings of national identity and aspire to understand their culture in depth. For this purpose, a Youth Center for Azerbaijanis was created in Spring this year. It is headed by Amil Salimov who stressed that he and his companions have a desire to learn how their counterparts live in the historical lands and other countries.

The Azeri Society of the Latvian Azerbaijanis has been functioning in Latvia since 1988. According to the Chairman of the Azeri Society, Ulduzkhan Ahmadov, nearly 1,734 Azerbaijanis have been officially registered in Latvia. A Congress of Azerbaijanis of Baltic Countries was established in January 2006 in Riga for the effective interaction of Azerbaijanis.
