During the today's (October 31) hearing on the criminal case over Haji Mammadov and his gang, Haji Mammadov said that there is a motive why he killed Azer Ismayilov, Chief of the Azerbaijan Interior Ministry's Drugs Department. The legal proceedings on the case of former Senior Officer of the Central Criminal Investigation Department of the Interior Ministry and his gang consisting of 25 members, is being held in the Azerbaijan Court for Serious Crimes presided by judge Ali Seyfaliyev, Trend reports.
The motive is Rauf Babayev. Azer arrested and then blackmailed this person without any reason. If Mr. Babayev comes to the Court, then all of you will know a lot of facts concerning Mr. Ismayilov. Azer's attitude toward Rauf finally pushed me to this murder, said Mr. Mammadov.
When Mr. Ismyilov's sister Rena Nasibova was examined, the judicial sitting took an interval.
After resuming the hearing, Adil Nadjafov, a brother of Director of the State Concern Azermebelsanayye Nazim Pashayev, who was murdered by Haji Mammadov and his gang, gave testimony as a victim. He said that in the evening of September 19, 1995, he was told that his brother had not returned home despite of the fact that his brother left the workplace with his driver. In this connection, the next day (September 20, 1995), he turned to the police. Mr. Pashayev's car was found the same day.
After some time, we started to receive telephone calls. At first, they required 500.000 USD. Then the sum was reduced down to $150.000. After we found the sum required, we were looking forward to the call from the kidnappers, but they had not called us. As the investigation went on, I knew that they would not get in touch with us, since Mr. Mammadov killed my brother, said Mr. Nadjafov.
He also pointed out that a member of the gang Eldar Rahimov called them back then.
