A Baku Police Department Holding an Investigation on Fact of Beating an Azerbaijani Paper Editor-in-Chief

Azerbaijan, Baku/ Trend , corr. K. Zarbaliyeva/ Ramiz Shiriyev, the Investigator of Police Station 27 of the Yasamal District Police Department has said that the Police Station has initiated an investigation on the fact of the beating of Uzeyir Jafarov (reserve Leut.-Col.), the Editor-in-Chief of the Newspaper - "Gundalik Azebaijan" ("Daily Azerbaijan").

Mr. Shiriyev said that the police had received the appeal for help on the fact of beating from Mr. jafarov yesterday. Due to the bad state of health, the investigator could not take evidence from Mr. Jafarov all yesterday long. He has noted that he will have another try to within today. The investigator also said that the materials collected during the investigation would be submitted to the Investigation Sub-Department of the District Police Department to initiate a criminal case.

Victim Mr. Jafarov said that he had got a heavy head injury and felt bad. The Editor-in-Chief stated that he had known one of the attackers. According to Mr. Jafarov, he saw him in the hall of the Yasamal District Court during the legal proceedings on the case of the Editor-In-Chief of the Newspaper, Eynula Fatullayev Mr. Jafarov does not rule that the known incident is an order and the continuation the campaign launched against the Paper, its editorial, and leadership.

Notably, yesterday tonight, going out of the Editorial of the Newspaper, the Editor-in-Chief of the Newspaper - "Gundalik Azebaijan" was attacked by several unknown persons. The victim of the attack was sent to the Medical Clinical Centre with numerous heavy injuries.
