A New Prison to be Constructed in Azerbaijan
Azerbaijan, Baku / corr. Trend K.Zarbaliyeva / The construction of a new prison in Azerbaijan will commence at the end of this year. The Deputy Justice Minister/Chief of the Penal Service of Azerbaijan, Nazim Alekberov, said on 10 May that 20 ha land plot has been allocated for the prison on the territory of Unbaku. In addition to prisoners, dormitories will be constructed for the employees of the prison.
According to the Deputy Minister, the estimation documents of the project are being prepared. UNESCO has suggested that the closed Gobustan prison should be removed. Therefore, the location for the construction of a new prison was allocated. The new prison, which will meet European standards, includes a special building for prisoners sentenced to life-imprisonment.
