Court Hearing on Appeal of Complaint by Editor-in-Chief of Gundalik Azerbaijan Newspaper on 6 June

Azerbaijan, Baku / corr. Trend K.Zarbaliyeva / The court hearing regarding the appeal of a complaint by Eynulla Fatullayev, the Editor-in-Chief of the Gundalik Azerbaijan and Realny Azerbaijan newspapers has been scheduled for 6 June.

The decision was made on 18 May at the Appeal Court's preparatory hearing chaired by Judge Hamid Hamidov. The hearing was also attended by Fatullaye. Eynulla Fatullayev who has been accused in compliance with the law suit of the Head of the Center for Protection of the Rights of Refugees and IDPs, Tatyana Chaladze, with regards to an insult of Khojaly inhabitants in the article 'Diary of Karabakh' was sentenced to 2 year and 6 months of imprisonment by Yasamal District Court.

On 6 April Yasamal District Court fined Fatullayev the amount of AZN 20,000 according to the lawsuit by Chaladze. Currently 7 journalists are under arrest in Azerbaijan. Recently the Editor-in-Chief of Mukhalifet newspaper, Rovshan Kebirly and the newspaper's employee, Yashar Agazade were sentenced to 2 year and 6 months of imprisonment.
