Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr. К.Zarbaliyeva / Elchin Behbudov, the Chairman of the Azerbaijani State Anti-Torture Committee, inspected the temporary detention cells of police departments in twelve Azerbaijani regions.
Behbudov stated that inspections were conducted in Gobustan, Shamakha, Agsu, Geychay, Agdash, Shaki, Ismayilli, Gabala, Oguz, Gakh, Zakatala, and Balakan Police Departments. The aim of the inspection was to become familiarized with the conditions of preliminary detention cells and to reveal any evidence of torture.
The Chairman said that a wide range of problems were discovered during the inspections regarding policemen carrying out their duties. Ramil Usubov, the Azerbaijani Interior Minister was informed about these problems. The inspections' results will be included in a report.
